The spring Hawarden Old Castle open day will take place at 10am to 3pm on Sunday 8th March 2026.
Access the Old Castle from the big blue gates opposite The Glynne Arms in the centre of Hawarden village, or from the entrance at Hawarden Estate Farm Shop.
The Old Castle is a nationally important, Grade I listed monument, which is only open for a handful of days each year. Explore this historic site and take in breathtaking views across Hawarden Estate, North Wales and the Cheshire Plains.
Pay for your ticket below, or pay on the gates on the day!
All children must be accompanied.
Paths up to the castle are steep and uneven.
Dogs are welcome on leads.
All proceeds go to a charity chosen by our team: this time it’s Rupert’s Rainbow.
Rupert is a brave little boy living with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) — an ultra-rare, life-threatening neurological condition affecting around 1 in 1 million children. AHC causes unpredictable seizures, paralysis, abnormal movements and breathing difficulties, often triggered by excitement, stress, tiredness or routine changes. There is currently no cure available in the UK; research into treatment and a potential cure is underway in the United States. Recently, Rupert has experienced serious medical episodes requiring major emergency response, including times he stopped breathing — showing just how time-critical his condition is. Rupert’s Rainbow was created to raise awareness of AHC and fund specialist research, care and future treatment opportunities to give Rupert the best chance of a brighter future.
