IN SEASON
Seasonal Eating
Eating seasonally not only makes sense but is more often than not better for your pocket. By eating food when it is truly in season means you are eating it when it is at its best and tastes how it should - seasonal food tends to be local and therefore hasn't flown hundreds of miles to reach your dinner plate. Try our seasonal suggestions and eat what you should be eating this month.
We are well into the game season now and have got plenty of Estate game in the shop. Try our fresh rabbit or pheasant, or a slice of game pie from the Deli.
We planted 5000 sprout plants in the spring, and as luck should have it, nearly all have been successful. The winter would not be quite the same without sprouts stalks, after all it keeps them super-fresh and tasty. Don't forget the sprout top can be used too - try it thinly sliced and pan-fried with butter.
Parsnips and butter are best friends, and once the first frost has arrived parsnips are at their best. One of our Estate farmers, Alan Huson, grows the most fantastic, fresh and dirty bunched parsnips. Try them steamed and mashed with lashings of butter and black pepper.
